Clouded Mirror

I’ve gazed into the stream
Watched my reflection
Drift away unseen

I’ve stood in the winds of time
And watched the world pass by
Making no sense or rhyme

Ive stood in the rain
Flooded with emotion
Void of pain

I’ve see the darkness within
Through the cracks of lightening
Flashing across a soul too thin

I’ve felt the thunder in my bones
Bring back memories
Thrown like sticks or stones

I’ve become the storm to love
Riding swollen streams
Under dark skies above

Life is reciprocal in tone
Darkness for light, evil sees good
And yet I walk alone

Where is my reflection
What reveals me,
Suffers my intention

So I assimilate the sublime
Like a cloudy day
Brings memories of sunshine

To reflect is giving myself away
revealing so little
Of who I truly seek one day

Until then I’ll ride the storms
And show you who you are
Taking different paths and forms

I close my eyes riding the wind through the tenses of my life. Filtered images fly through the dark illuminating scenes through the scent of memory and hope.

I know not where the wind will take me, nor the speed, for there’s a world of difference between the breeze and the gale, but they’re mine none the less.

The sounds of my past aren’t audible. They come through experiences that thunder or whisper to my soul. Interrupted only by the decibels of reality rumbling across my conscientious. The light rain on the tin roof has more color in mind than in my world.

It’s like the sound of rubber rolling on wet asphalt triggers a silence that brings a colorful emotion that’s silent, but heard. Felt in that separate place between memory and hope.

I can’t live here in this darkness full of light, sound, and smells. I can’t push the world far enough away. I can close my eyes and smile, or cry for dreams long past, or hopes that’ve died. Either way the beauty isn’t lost, it’s in me.

Of Nature and Desire

Concentrically narrowing foliage chokes my optimism with caution. Thorns and petals stalk my path to a less humid endeavors. But this is how truth hides, just beyond the greenery withering in all of us.

The canopy has levels that reveal light one shard at a time, until your above the tangle of vines where there is no forest floor. All you see is beauty framed by heaven as fresh air wisps away the rot decaying below.

If only I could fly away to stone. An edifice imagined. Stolid and thoughtful granite curves that time hides. Water cascades over the riffs she’s etched in my strength. Sun glistens on the darkness creating black rainbows in the mist, and lichen warms the crevices of my souls.

The beauty of this carnage we call nature is odd, like love it takes great pains and grows with time, only to be passed on to the budding life below. The tallest trees see it while taking warmth from above, mocking us as their roots draw from our strength. Their saplings without us withering in the clutches of vines, but it’s beauty to the naive.

Life is a beautiful struggle between our nature and our ideals, between our needs and desires. Inside us the biological and psychological battles constantly feed on us like the worms that till our soul, but all we see are faces as we paint our landscape with beauty.

I sit in calm silence watching, listening
Branches sway and leaves rustle in the distance
Birds chirp above the distant vehicles rumbling.

This battle for my attention pulls at my intellect
Nature surrounds my soul interrupted by noise
Street sounds, mechanical babble, and human neglect

Sometimes it’s just rubber rolling on asphalt
The wind picks up and my senses return to a place
A place where only my DNA has dwelt

Moments of peace return
cardinals darting in the breeze
Red or grey flecked moments burn

And here i dwell between peace and prosperity
Wedged in a time without tense
Holding into what little still makes sense

Natures Pursuit

Greasy rainbow streaked puddles evaporates into an acrid myst permeating my soul with the memory of summers in the street. Hot and hungry for something that never existed I stalk the corners and back alley’s. Buildings replace trees in a twisted jungle of brick and mortar that threatens to set my feet in dysfunction. So I follow the one rule of survival I know will keep me alive, keep movin!!

It’s a path I need; a winding dirt trail littered with last season’s decay. The smell of nature on my mind I can relax and wander through a living existence where the sound of trees gently blowing in the summer breeze replaces plastic wind carrying exhaust and chatter around every corner.

The sound of the fan in my window makes the sirens a staccato symphony behind horns blowing impatience and people yelling the alcohol out of their system. Back and forth I listen to the dreams of the fan and the nightmares of the streets.

I long for the cicadas singing the owl into a stupor. The sound of water rushing through my window setting my dreams adrift. The woods are like people, each individual swaying to the breeze in their own rhythm and beauty as one. The macro concept of together gives us the micro space to tower above the landscape and scream I Am over the creaking forests complaints.

I awaken to the sound of mist rising in plumes from manhole covers. Street lights fade into the sunset I never see past the shadows of the industrious pursuit of upward mobility. Distracted I lay in bed with the echo of my dreams calling me back to the myst that covers the early morning lake awaiting the suns rays. Prisms dissipate one tiny rainbow at a time silently raising the day. Tomorrow is here and I breathe again with the elements of time on my side.
